Association for Regional Social and Economic Development

Regional policy

Regional policy is crucial for the economic development of the country and depends on the implementation of targeted investments. It supports job creation, competitiveness, economic growth, improved quality of life and sustainable development.

Regional policy aims to reduce the significant economic, social and territorial disparities that still exist amongst the regions of Bulgaria - a country with a typical monocentric regional development model with a center of Sofia (the capital of the country).

The aim of the policy is to achieve polycentrism and develop all elements of the transport and economic infrastructure in the regions of Bulgaria to achieve balanced distribution of public goods.

The funding from the European Union, the national and municipal budgets should support:

  • Small and medium-sized enterprises
  • Research and innovation
  • Investments in cleaner environment
  • Better access to digital technologies
  • Development of new products and manufacturing methods
  • Energy efficiency and coping with climate change
  • Education and acquiring skills
  • Improved transport links with remote regions
